However,...Volf's work on forgiveness is excellent. However, Rembrant's painting reminded me of another excellent book that relates to this topic: "The Return of the Prodigal Son" by Henri Nouwen. It is an excellent study of both Rembrant's painting and Jesus' parable.<BR/><BR/>Thus, to add to your conclusion, I think that Nouwen would argue that we forgive in order to become like the father.
